Located in Hangzhou, Zhejiang Province of China, OōEli is the first Chinese project undertaken by Renzo Piano, one of the Pulitzer Prize winners, and an iconic comprehensive art park covering an area of about 230,000 square meters and incorporating offices, art museums, art centers, show fields, design hotels, and art commerce.

Concrete construction is one of the most important design features of OōEli. The concrete construction is one of the most important design features of “OōEli” Park. The exposed core tubes and beams of fair-faced concrete are both structural members and parts of the architectural effect to be expressed. Moreover, the 22,000 square meters of concrete paving project, which was consulted by FORME, also interprets the world's top engineering standards that the project symbolizes.

FORME was invited to take charge of the design detailing, technical development, and on-site management of the concrete flooring system for this project. Through continuous mix ratio testing and precise construction monitoring, the team not only overcame several critical technical challenges to achieve the desired finish but also successfully extended the artistic vision embedded in the design. The project further embodies principles of ecological sustainability, maximizing the realization of the surface quality envisioned by both the client and the design team.

To ensure the best results with both efficiency and precision, designers Diego and Claudio returned to their hometown in Italy, where they engaged in in-depth discussions with local experts and conducted multiple rounds of testing and prototyping. For the approximately 22,000-square-meter concrete landscape flooring, FORME developed a new finish featuring a “warm brown” tone with subtly exposed round aggregate. The surface texture and pattern were meticulously crafted to meet the architect’s expectations, and this finish was extended to ramps, steps, and curbstones, achieving a cohesive material expression throughout the site.
